I showed my FH the Elm Grove Women's Club, my ceremony and reception venue in one, and he hated it! :(  I didn't expect him to totally hate it... he said "Yea, that's not happening."  Why? Because it's too "womanly", because it's a women's club and it has pink-ish walls.  Come on. Can't wait to tell his mom, who loved it, that he hates it.  I don't know what we're going to do now.  At least it opened up the conversation about ceremony and reception locations... I told him "well now I don't know what to do about a ceremony location, because I REALLY don't want to look at churches."  He said fine, he'll find a church.  I said "Really?  Okay, but your church choice has to pass my aesthetic approval, just like the women's club had to pass yours."  He said he had a church he wanted to visit, the Unitarian Universalist church in Wauwatosa, and that we could even go there some time soon to check it out.  I said okay, let's go tomorrow (Sunday at the time).  He was open to it, but then we just didn't wake up.

Now I don't even know.  I'm back to square ZERO.  So sad, because to me that place was perfect, and the price couldn't be beat!

1.  Get married in a park?
a. No, too cold/wet/windy/hot, plus there are bugs and that could RUIN the whole thing.  (I really hate bugs, even lady bugs, that fly around and land on you).
b. You have to rent everything, which adds up
c. Difficult for everyone to park nearby

2. Get married in some church
a. Fine, except it must pass my beauty test
b. Membership must not be a requirement
c. Cost must not exceed $600 total for the officiant's services and any wedding prep classes that they require
d. Issues w/ my mom demanding a Lutheran church wedding by a Lutheran minister
e. FH has been a church-o-phobe the whole time I've known him
f. I don't know how to stand up to both FH and his mother AND my mother: I don't necessarily want Lutheran OR UU church.

3. What the heck am I going to do about a reception, and will it be affordable?
I realize I'm the only one in here so far, but just in case other people manage to find this....

I'm posting a link I saw on another community to a really great example of how to save some money and still have a BEAUTIFUL wedding: Life of Lacey

She has some really great ideas and suggestions on there for centerpieces, invitations, bouquets, and so much more.
